Experience an unforgettable and varied program from Madison Symphony Orchestra, featuring the overture to Felix Mendelssohn's score to William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Claude Debussy's famous Prelude a l'Apres-Midi d'un Faune, Stravinsky's Petrushka and Korngold's Violin Concerto in D Major. Conducted by Tania Miller, Playful Pursuits will bring a spring in the step to all concertgoers!
Mendelssohn's enchanting Midsummer Night's Dream, composed in 1842, perfectly captures the whimsical, mystical and romantic themes of Shakespeare's play, bringing the characters and story to life in a way that is truly captivating. Debussy's Prelude a l'Apres-Midi d'un Faune is a symphonic poem considered to be one of the greatest examples of impressionist music. For Korngold's violin concerto, the orchestra will be graced by the presence of renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine, while Stravinsky's Petrushka brings an element of Russian balletic flair to the performance.
